Traveling Knit Afghan Square 3

This post is for those who do not have a Facebook account or aren't active on Facebook - I will provide Creusa's pattern instructions here (this is just a copy and paste from her FB page) with a link to her downloadable pdf here.



Materials

• Lion Brand Yarns Feels Like Butta (100% Polyester; 100g/199m)

Yarn A: Color 108 Dusty Blue x 1 skein

Yarn B: Color 158 Lemon x 1 skein

• US7/4.5mm knitting needles, or size to obtain gauge.

Gauge/Tension

20 st and 36 rows: 10 cm wide x 10 cm high (4 in wide x 4 in high) blocked, in garter stitch.

Measurements

50.8 cm high x 50.8 cm wide (20 in high x 20 in wide)

Abbreviations

co cast on

k knit stitch

sl slip stitch purl-wise

wyib with yarn in back

wyif with yarn in front

Pattern Notes

• Afghan square is knit in garter st and uses slip stiches to achieve colorwork designs.

• Do not slip the first stitch at the beginning of a row unless instructed to do so.

• Yarn strands are carried up the side of the work.

• Recommended to place a stitch marker at the beginning of each 10-stitch repeat

Instructions:

Note: Each row of the Afghan Square is 92 st: there are no increases or decreases.

Set-up Stripe (Yarn A): CO 92 st, turn. K to end of row, turn.

1. Stripe 1 (Yarn A)

Row 1 (RS): K to end of row, turn.

Row 2 (WS): K to end of row, turn. [92 st]

2. Stripe 2 (Yarn B)

Row 1 (RS): Sl first 2 st wyib, k across to last 2 st, sl last 2 st wyib, turn.

Row 2 (WS): Sl first 2 st wyif, k across to last 2 st, sl last 2 st wyif, turn.

3. Repeat Stripe 1 one (1) time.

4. Stripe 3 (Yarn B)

Row 1 (RS): Sl first 2 st wyib, *(k next 3 st, sl next 2 st wyib); repeat from * 17 more times, turn.

Row 2 (WS): Sl first 2 st wyif, *(k next 3 st, sl next 2 st wyif); repeat from * 17 more times, turn.

5. Repeat Stripe 1 one (1) time.

6. Repeat Stripe 3 one (1) time.

7. Repeat Stripe 1 one (1) time.

8. Repeat Stripe 3 one (1) time.

9. Repeat Stripe 1 TWO (2) times.

10. Stripe 4 (Yarn B)

Row 1 (RS): Sl first 2 st wyib, *(k next 8 st, sl next 2 st wyib); repeat from * 8 more times, turn.

Row 2 (WS): Sl first 2 st wyif, *(k next 8 st, sl next 2 st wyif); repeat from * 8 more times, turn.

11. Repeat Stripe 1 TWO (2) times.

12. Repeat Stripe 2 one (1) time.

13. Repeat Stripe 1 TWO (2) times.

14. Repeat Steps 2 through 13 three (3) more times.

15. Repeat Steps 2 through 12 one (1) more time.

16. Repeat Stripe 1 one (1) time.

17. (Yarn A) Bind off.

To Finish

Weave in all ends and block to 50.8 cm high x 50.8 cm wide (20 in high x 20 in wide). Use the mattress stitch or other preferred method to attach to the other afghan squares.
