Is it really already May 2021?! We welcome Square 5 to our rapidly growing Traveling Knit Afghan work in progress - Square 5 is designed by Uma Padmanabhan.
The free version of Yuj (Square 5) pattern will live here as Uma does not have a website. However, the downloadable ad-free version of the pattern can be found here.
Yarn: Feels Like Butta Lion Brand Yarn, 218 yards/199m; 100g; 100% polyester. MC: Dusty Blue #108 - 1 skein; CC Lemon, #158 –
Needles: US 7/4.5mm or whatever needed to obtain gauge of 19 sts & 20 rows = 4”/10cm in Moss stitch.
Pattern Notes: There are totally 5 stripes in the square, 3 in Dusty Blue and two in Lemon. Each stripe measures 4” (10cm), 2” (5cm) in each pattern stitch, starting with Moss stitch. Slip the first stitch of every row to create a neat edge.
Working with MC, long-tail CO 95 sts and work the Moss Stitch band as follows:
Row 1 (WS): * k1, p1, repeat from * to last stitch, k1. Row 2 (RS): * k1, p1, repeat from * to last stitch, k1.
Repeat rows 1 & 2 for 2 (5cm), ending with a WS row.
Next work the Garter Stitch band as follows:
Row 1 (RS): Knit to end. Row 2 (WS): Knit to end.
Repeat rows 1 & 2 for 2” (5cm) ending with a WS row.
Stripe 2 Change to CC.
Knit one row. Continue as Stripe #1 beginning with the Moss Stitch band on the WS for 2” (5cm), ending with the Garter Stitch band on the WS for 2” (5cm).
Change to MC and work Stripe # 3 as Stripe #1.
Stripe 4 Change to CC and work Stripe # 4 as Stripe # 2.
Change to MC and work Stripe # 5 as Stripe # 1.
Bind off. Weave in ends. Block your square to 20” x 20” before you join it to the next.
